Musky Rat-kangaroo (2/3)

Driving along a track through rainforest at Lake Eacham late in the afternoon, we rounded a corner to see a Musky Rat-kangaroo on the track ahead eating something. The rat-kangaroo quickly bounded off into the rainforest.

A little while later I returned to the spot on foot and found the Musky Rat-kangaroo had also returned and was again eating something. I took this photograph but again the animal bounded off as I quietly approached.

I was surprised to find that the morsel that the rat-kangaroo had been feeding on was a dead animal of some description which had possibly been killed by an earlier vehicle.
